23/05/08: Some photos of that day
If you could take a single photo, every day, over the span of 18 years - what would it be of?
For many of us stuck in the cycle of the office lifestyle, our eyes maladjusted to the flicker of florescent tubing, the view doesn't change much. A photocopier here, a window there, but more often than not, the steady illumination of a computer monitor.
Jamie Livingston set out to create a photographic memorial of his day to day lifestyle, one photo at a time.
What transpired was some 6,697 photos, all Polaroids, detailing the chronicles of his life -- from sunny afternoons in the park, to his brain tumor surgery, and ultimately his death. His last photo was taken the day before he died, which occured on his 41st birthday.

In 2007, his friends gathered the photos and displayed them at Bard College, NY (which amusingly enough is where Steely Dan formed with Chevy Chase playing drums). The following link will take you through Jamie Livingston's photographic life. Some Photos of That Day.

10/01/08: Eastern European Matchbox Labels
British-based designer Jane McDevitt has catalogued her collection of beautiful 1950s and 1960s Eastern European matchbox labels on her Flickr account here....
29/10/07: Spooky

What are you doing for Hallowe'en? I'm tempted by Dracula at The Screen On The Green but any chance to hear Bobby Pickett's 'Monster Mash' played l-o-u-d would be ideal. Any suggestions?
03/06/07: The Sweater
I vaguely remember that back in the 1980s BBC2 used to regularly showcase animation from around the world in a slot between (I think) 6 and 7 on weekday evenings. As well as showing early work by people like Bill Plympton they used to screen loads of far-out Eastern European surrealist stuff that we were allowed to watch as kids because they were cartoons but I reckon bent my young mind more wildly than anything before or since....
18/04/07: Birthday Boy
03/04/07: Holy Mountain...
...is not only the name of an exceptional record label and a hardcore band but was also the name of one of my all time favourite movies. It's director Alejandro Jodorowsky, a Jewish Russian who moved to Mexico in 1973, is responsible for at least two of the greatest films of the 70s, the other being El Topo and with quotes like "I ask of cinema what most North Americans ask of psychedelic drugs" I'm sure you'll understand why.
21/02/07: Arthouse games
This may be a geek too far for some of you, but still... Okami has got to be the single most eye-poppingly beautiful video game I've ever seen...
19/02/07: Growing up Sesame
The Crayola Crayon factory segment on Sesame Street has haunted my memory and dreams sent me swimming through waves of pigmented wax. A highlight of my childhood.
Now I crave the sweet olfactory pleasure of opening a fresh box of crayons.

10/01/07: Lovely little HTML Trees

How cool. Plonk your favourite (or not) URL into this site, graphically display it as a rather elegant heirarchical image.
How our site looks
Here's the legend:
blue: for links (the A tag)
red: for tables (TABLE, TR and TD tags)
green: for the DIV tag
violet: for images (the IMG tag)
yellow: for forms (FORM, INPUT, TEXTAREA, SELECT and OPTION tags)
orange: for linebreaks and blockquotes (BR, P, and BLOCKQUOTE tags)
black: the HTML tag, the root node
grey: all other tags
So good.

Hear ye, hear ye! The first In The Pines of 2007 will be January 28th at the Harrison. We're switching from fortnightly to monthly...the last Sunday of each month. Hopefully this will make us less grumpy and each monthly event more amazing. Thanks to all for your support in 2006.
